Who We Are
The Center for Shared Ownership (CSO) is a collaborative initiative of the Chicago Community Loan Fund (CCLF) and the Chicago Rehab Network (CRN) to address the urgent shortage of affordable housing in Chicago, estimated at 120,000 units. CSO’s mission is to catalyze shared ownership housing models as a sustainable, affordable alternative to renting or traditional homeownership, offering households a pathway to build wealth and stability. Recognizing the challenges faced by small owner-managed condominiums and financially distressed cooperatives, CSO is committed to preserving and revitalizing these housing models while promoting new shared ownership developments across the Chicago area.
CSO provides technical assistance, governance support, and capacity-building resources to empower shared ownership communities. CSO’s approach integrates expertise from CCLF and CRN, creating a robust support system aimed at fostering resilient, community-driven ownership models that reduce living expenses and promote economic equity within the city.
Our Mission
The Center for Shared Ownership is dedicated to preserving and strengthening shared ownership properties, empowering them to compete effectively in their markets while maintaining affordability and fostering sustainable communities. Through tailored technical assistance, strategic governance, and capacity-building, we support shared equity housing models to thrive as dynamic, competitive, and resilient contributors to their neighborhoods.
